£28,000 loan helps to assist with the purchase of land on the Cletwr, adjacent to Dyfi National Nature Reserve, Machynlleth.

The Wildlife Habitat Trust (WHT) has granted a loan of £28,000 to Dyfi, Mawddach and Dysynni Wildfowlers Association to help with the purchase of land at the bottom of the Cletwr, adjacent to the Dyfi National Nature Reserve, Machynlleth.

The purchase by Dyfi, Mawddach and Dysynni Wildfowlers Association will allow the club to manage the area and to help conserve the Greenland White-fronted Geese that use the Dyfi valley in and around the Dyfi estuary.

The club’s Chairman Nick Powell said: “This is a significant step for the club and its members in securing a parcel of land for wildfowling. At the same time it also provides the club with the opportunity to work with the Welsh Government and other local landowners in maintaining beneficial habitat for a number of bird species especially the Greenland White-fronted Goose”

Tim Russell, WHT secretary and director of conservation at BASC, said: “This loan provides an exciting opportunity for the club to not only strengthen its influence in the area by owning land, but also to help with the vital conservation work needed to conserve Greenland white-fronted geese. This is a great example of the commitment to conservation shown by many wildfowling clubs around the UK’s coast.”
